Subtly Make A Statement

Mastering the art of subtly making a statement. GOSH this took me years to figure out, and I still don't always have it down. BUT I've learned a thing a two over the years. Planning outfits fast was ALWAYS a challenge for me (I'm a BIG planner). Being a 20 something single woman in a big city I'm always in a rush throwing together an outfit for a night out with the girls, happy hour after work, a last minute date. Until recently, I NEVER knew what to wear. I always wanted to look "perfect", and for some reason that meant a dress and heels. But you know what I realized, that's an AGGRESSIVE look. My mom would always say, "don't make it look like you're trying to hard." Angrily I would say back, "I'm not, I just like dresses best they are easier." For some reason I had this idea in my head that jeans were drab or too casual. As I started to attend events, gatherings, dinners more and more I realized WOW my mom was right the art of looking fabulous and effortless is WAY cooler. You know what i'm talking about... the girl that walks into the party in a chill outfit but still chic and looks effortlessly flawless (makes you wonder how she did that). So I started investing in shirts that are fairly basic (so I can wear them often) and statement earrings. NOW i'm hooked, I like jeans way more than dresses. You can wear the same jeans over and over and no-one is going to say a WORD. Like what? SIGN ME UP! And you can wear shirts basically back to back and switch up your earrings and shoes and you're good to GO!

Let's talk about this outfit above. These Free People skinny jeans (Size 26, Color Night Shade) I got last week. They're classic with the dark wash, but have that trendy flare to them with the ripped up bottoms. Because they are high- waisted  they are perfect for crop top (can't be showing too much tummy, we're still going to tasteful hehe but on trend). This Free People crop top is under $60 and pretty versatile being that it's white with hints of blue and red. I would pair this with light or dark skinny jeans, or a high- waisted jean skirt. NOW, these earrings we have to discuss. The pop of red is what really pulls this outfit together and catches your eye, but it's not over the top.

MY PERSONAL "RULES"-
1.) Crop tops = high waisted bottoms (not too much tummy showing and sucks you in)
2.) Fun bottomed jeans = keep those shoes simple and strappy, let your foot breathe (showing skin creates length)
3.) Big bold earrings = keep your outfit colors neutral/ simple.
