Kicking Those Rainy Day Blues Goodbye
Oh rainy days, they can bring such HIGHS and LOWS! For me personally, when the weather is gloomy I'm a mess! I thrive on the sunshine and warm temperatures. I was sitting at a coffee shop working on Monday and checked the weather only to see it was going to be cloudy and rainy all week. My first reaction was that I wanted to throw my coffee off the table (JK, I wasn't about to waste my $5 Starbucks latte or make a scene) so I decided to do something about it. I made a list of all the ways I could BEAT this gloomy weather! If you're anything like me and feel down in the dumps over icky weather here's some things to helped me!
Take the time to relax. For me half the battle is accepting I can't change the weather. The only thing I'm in control of is my own spirit and head space. This means it's time to decompress. 3 of my personal favorite ways.
A warm cup of coffee, by the fire deep in thought, planning out my week ahead, or chatting with family or friends.
A bubble bath at night with a hot cup of tea, lavender oils, and candles. Throw on some good jams (my fav: Christian music), or relax with a book (my current: The Measure of A Woman).
Snuggling up with blankets in pajamas and watch your favorite show/ movie (my fav: Friends). Choose something that places your mind in the right space and rejuvenates you for the days ahead.
Get moving. Get your booty out of bed, throw on some sneakers, and get to the gym. When we break a sweat, we get our endorphins going. Endorphins are similar to the drug morphine, considered natural painkillers because they activate opioid receptors in the brain that help minimize discomfort. Basically, this helps get us out of a FUNK, and put us in a POSITIVE mood. Not only do I look better when I workout, but I feel better from the inside out. It also makes me feel accomplished at the start of the day.
Do the little things that make you happy. This could be absolutely anything. For me it's the SMALL things that all ADD UP. Taking quite time with my bible in the morning. Listening to a motivational YouTube video or podcast. Jamming out to Christian or Country music in my car. Going to my favorite coffee shop and treating myself to a yummy latte. I also find that spending time with friends really helps. Keeping your mind busy passes the time. Before you know it, the sunshine is back.
Hopefully some of these simple tips helps you when your feel a little low on a yucky weather day!
